Kalton Refrigerant Gas R-507 is a hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant blend consisting of R-125 (50%) and R-143a (50%). It is an azeotropic mixture (behaves like a single substance with no temperature glide) and was developed as a long-term replacement for R-502 in commercial refrigeration systems.
Type: HFC azeotropic blend (must be charged in liquid phase).
Boiling Point (1 atm): ~ –46.7 °C.
Critical Temperature: ~ 70.9 °C.
Critical Pressure: ~ 37.1 bar.
Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP): 0 (no chlorine, safe for ozone).
Global Warming Potential (GWP): ~ 3,985 (very high).
ASHRAE Safety Class: A1 (non-flammable, low toxicity).
Designed as a replacement for R-502 in low and medium-temperature refrigeration.
Widely used in supermarkets, cold storage warehouses, food processing plants, ice machines, refrigerated transport, and other commercial refrigeration systems.
Performs reliably across a wide range of evaporator temperatures.
No ozone depletion (ODP = 0).
Excellent performance very close to R-502, making it a strong retrofit option.
Azeotropic blend: no significant glide, so system operation and maintenance are easier compared to zeotropic blends like R-407C.
Safe to handle under normal conditions (non-flammable, low toxicity).
Very high GWP (~3985) means it has a strong greenhouse impact.
Under global regulations (EU F-Gas, Kigali Amendment), R-507 is being phased down in favor of low-GWP alternatives like R-448A, R-449A, R-452A, or natural refrigerants (CO₂, hydrocarbons).
Requires POE lubricants (not compatible with mineral oils).
